HARVEST AND USE

Harvesting is easy. We show you how and we have lots of suggestions on how to use it.

Fresh vs powder

Fresh, raw, live Spirulina has a pleasant mild to tasteless flavor.

  • More vitamins and phyto-nutrients available
  • Can be added to any food without compromising the taste
  • Replaces most vitamin supplements
  • No risk of heavy metals
  • You know what you are eating
  • Lower carbon and environmental footprint
  • Significantly cheaper than dry products
  • You are in control when you grow you own

Powdered Spirulina has a strong unpleasant flavor that most people don't like

  • Many vitamins and phyto-nutrients destroyed in the drying process.
  • Strong unpleasant taste which overpowers other flavours - like adding a sardine to your smoothie
  • Risk of heavy metals and contaminants in some brands
  • You don't know what you are eating and what has been added to the commercial product
  • Cooking and drying leaves a carbon footprint
  • Expensive

Perfect for urban farming

Spirulina is ideally suited to urban farming

  • Easy to grow
  • Easy to maintain
  • High return on invested resources
  • Low establishment cost
  • Rapid growing (can double biomass every 2-3 days)
  • No waste, no mess
  • Easy to harvest
  • Low maintenance costs
  • Zero pests and diseases
  • Doesn't take a lot of time
  • 100 percent of harvest is edible
  • High protein and nutrient output
  • Easy to learn. Doesn't take years of experience

Passion for growing positive change in communities

Dr Ken Street, aka “The seed hunter” is an agricultural scientist whose work has focused on the collection and conservation of ancient seed varieties. This work to preserve our crop heritage literally underpins global food security as we march towards a future in which our agricultureal ecosystems will face unprecedented challenges.

Dubbed “The India Jones of Agriculture”, Dr Ken Street’s journeys has been featured in a multi-award wining documentary, entitled Seedhunter, which has been shown on ABC television in Australia and major channels worldwide.

Concerned with issues of global food security, Ken became interested in alternative food sources that are climate change proof. This led him to Algae and Spirulina. The Spirulina Grow Co is Ken’s contribution to a more sustainable future.
