Frequently Asked Questions
How much spirulina will this make? 500ml is a robust starter volume. Once established in your tank and given proper nutrients, it’ll multiply rapidly. Most growers move to a 100 litre working volume within 5 – 6 weeks.
What if my culture dies in transit? Express shipping is included to prevent this. If your culture arrives unhealthy, we’ll replace it. We’ve shipped hundreds of cultures across Australia with a near-perfect arrival rate.
Does this include nutrients? No — this is the culture only. You’ll need your own starter nutrient formulation. If you want nutrients included, see our 500ml Live Spirulina Culture & Fast Grow Starter Nutrient Pack.
How long until I can start harvesting? You can start increasing your culture immediately. First proper harvests usually happen around week 5-6, depending on your nutrient mix, light, and temperature.
Do I need special equipment? A clear container, an aquarium air pump + tubes, and an aquarium heater if you are growing in cold conditions. We outline setup options in the manual.
How much daily care does this need? Less than five minutes. You check the basic conditions. Check that the bubbler tubes are affixed and the bubbles are doing their job, top up for evaporation, check on color and termperature.
What does fresh spirulina taste like? Nothing like powder. Fresh spirulina is smooth, mild, and slightly earthy — easy to blend into smoothies or juice. The “fishy” reputation comes from degraded, oxidised powder.
